Sunday 10 November, 5pm
Join Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo for an evening of readings, art and music on Remembrance Sunday.
Discover how Rae Smith’s designs for the acclaimed production of War Horse were originally created and watch as she brings her work to life in an on-stage demonstration, with author Michael Morpurgo reading extracts from his celebrated novel.
The second half of Anthems for Peace will be a reading by Michael Morpurgo of his book Best Christmas Present in the World with actress Virginia McKenna and accompanied by the acapella group of Voices at the Door (six piece award-winning singing group including Coope, Boyes and Simpson, Fi Fraser, Jo Freya and Georgina Boyes) singing carols from Britain, France and Flanders.
A century after the famous Christmas Truce of 1914 and the football match in No-Man’s Land between the British and the Germans, a soldier’s letter is found by chance in an antique desk – “Jim’s Last Letter: to be buried with me when the time comes.” And thus begins the quest to find “Dearest Connie”.
Best Christmas Present in the World is directed by Simon Reade.
