Listen to Michael Read for the Hands Up Foundation

Storytelling is one of Syria’s greatest traditions and Al Hakawati (the Storyteller) holds a special place in Syrian culture. As a nod to this, the Hands Up Foundation is presenting a series of stories online, told by some very famous voices! All stories are available for free, but the Foundation hopes that donations will be made by listeners who are able to support their work.

Michael is one of these remarkable storytellers. In his video he reads his own, highly poignant short story, The Kites Are Flying. Watch him here, then find out more about the Foundation’s storytelling initiative here.
