Michael Morpurgo will launch Private Peaceful Day with a live Q&A via satellite following special screenings of the film for schools.
100 cinemas including Picturehouse & Cineworld, will show the film across the UK as part of the Centenary commemorations of WW1. Students will then be able to watch Michael answer questions live about Private Peaceful after the screening. Schools attending the screenings will be invited to send in their questions, with the best being asked during the Q&A.
Private Peaceful Day marks the start of Cityread London which will run throughout the entire month of April with events in every London borough. It was conceived to promote reading for pleasure, engage new library users and encourage people to explore and celebrate their city’s history.
This year, for the first time, a children’s book is celebrated as part of the scheme, with a programme of activities around Michael Morpurgo’s phenomenal bestseller Private Peaceful, including: the participation of The British Library; comic-strip workshops by graphic novelist Karen Rubin; and the appointment of a Young Writer-in-Residence for the duration of the scheme (in partnership with Spread the Word).
