Shrewsbury Festival for "A Medal for Leroy"

“A Medal for Leroy” is Michael’s new novel, inspired partly by Michael’s own life and partly by the life of an incredible soldier. This event is an opportunity to see and hear one of the greatest children’s writer talk about his work.

Michael Morpurgo Day at Stratford Literacy Festival

12:30–4pm

The Croft School.

This is a festival doing Michael Morpurgo Day.

From 12:30 - 14:00, there will be three events themed around Michael Morpurgo’s books:  Book-Making Workshop, Puppet - Making Workshop, and Theatre Workshop. At 15:00 Michael will speak about his inspiration and the stories behind his books.

44th Annual May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture by Michael Morpurgo

Linehan Chapel, Golisano Academic Center, Nazareth College, 4245 East Avenue , Rochester, New York 14618.

Michael Morpurgo has been selected to present the 44th Annual May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture. In “War Boy to War Horse,” the award-winning author will talk about his life writing, the journey from being a Second World War baby to becoming Britain ’s Children’s Laureate, and ultimately the success of War Horse on stage and screen.  Presented by the Association for Library Service to Children and hosted by Nazareth College and the Youth Services Section of the New York Library Association. 

A public reception will follow the Lecture, with an opportunity for a meet and greet with Michael.  A book sale of his titles will be offered and printed bookplates with his signature will be available.

The link, “Ticketing Procedures,” provides directions and a ticket reservation form. Reservations are handled on a first-come, first-serve basis and seating is limited in the Linehan Chapel. Seating is general admission and the doors will open at 6pm.

38th Annual Youth Services Section's Spring Conference

8:30–4:30pm

Holiday Inn Rochester Airport in Rochester, New York.

The 38th Annual Youth Services Section’s Spring Conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. Nationally syndicated advice columnist Amy Dickinson will provide the keynote speech. The luncheon speaker will be award-winning author Margaret Peterson Haddix. This day-long event will include a choice of fifteen workshops for librarians specializing in services for children and teens. In one of the workshop choices, “A Story-maker’s Journey,” Michael Morpurgo will discuss the research he does to develop his historical fiction. His appearance will be followed by a short meet and greet. A selection of his titles will be offered for sale and printed bookplates with his signature will be available.

Conference registration includes a continental breakfast, luncheon, and three workshops. Reduced registration fees will be offered for library school students and New York Library Association members in the Youth Services Section and the Section of School Librarians. Members of youth divisions of out-of-state or international library associations may also register at the YSS/NYLA member rates. Rates range from $105 to $150 depending on affiliation and date the registration is submitted. Please see the New York Library Association Web page for details: www.nyla.org. 8th Annual Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival Special Presentation by Michael Morpurgo

1:15–2pm

Nazareth College, Rochester, New York, USA.

The Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival will celebrate eight years and counting with a line-up of more than 30 American authors with incredible appeal to tweens and teens. It will be a day for teens, but all adult readers and book lovers are also welcome to this free event. Over the years, the attendance has continued to grow, with an average of 3,500 teens, their families, librarians, and school faculty enjoying a day set aside to celebrate authors, books, and fun.

This nationally-renowned festival means lots of fans, great publicity, and “rock star treatment” for all the authors involved.  Michael Morpurgo will make a special presentation at TBF from 1:15 until 2 pm Saturday afternoon, followed by a “meet and greet” opportunity.  A book sale of his titles will be offered and printed bookplates with his signature will be available.

War Horse Concert

Salisbury Playhouse - Main House, 87 Crane Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP1 2PU.

Michael Morpurgo will be at the Salisbury International Arts Festival to tell the powerful and deeply moving story of young Albert and his beloved horse Joey. Morpurgo is joined by acclaimed musicians John Tams and Barry Coope, who accompany him with rousing yet haunting songs specially composed for the National Theatre’s award-winning production of War Horse.
