The Mozart Question

Published: February 2008 February 2008

ISBN: 9781406306484

When Lesley is sent to Venice to interview world-renowned violinist Paulo Levi on his fiftieth birthday, she cannot believe her luck. She is told that she can ask him anything at all – except the Mozart question.

But it is Paulo himself who decides that it is time for the truth to be told. And so follows the story of his parents as Jewish prisoners of war, forced to play Mozart violin concertos for the enemy; how they watched fellow Jews being led off to their deaths and knew that they were playing for their lives. As the story unfolds, the journalist begins to understand the full horror of war, and how one group of musicians survived using the only weapon they had – music.

Ben says:

I loved Born to Run as it features alot of Greyhounds. This is a very emotional story, as the main character which was a greyhound (who had many names throughout the story, so for this review I am just going to call him Greyhound) goes through alot, one minute he is in a box in a canal, then at home with his rescuer, then racing as a racing greyhound and then with an old food truck owner- wherever Greyhound is he manages to survive! The whole book is rounded up really well as Greyhound is reunited with his rescuer, but does he recognise him? Michael Morpurgo is a truly awesome writer! I rate this book 9/10, a moving, emotional story.

Benjy says:

I absolutely loved this book, I want to be a journalist or a writer when I leave school, wouldn`t it be good to visit a professional violinist! I thought this book was good as it highlighted the main horrors of Jewish Concentration/Death Camp! I also liked the flashback element of it, as in the past paolo was a child learning to play the violin and in the present we see how successful he was with his violin career! I rate this book 9/10, as it has great illustrations!
