When my teacher assigned this book as Guided Reading homework for the class I was overjoyed to re-read it! The first time I got my hands onto a Michael Morpurgo book was when I was eight and I immediately fell in love with his work. The cover is very attractive and bright which makes people want to read the book. The story is a real page-turner and I couldn’t stop reading. It took me one afternoon and a half to finish “Kensuke’s Kingdom” and I was first in my year to bring it back to school and get my Reading Log stamped.
The book overall is fantastic - I would definetely recommend it to anyone who enjoys adventure and slight mystery.

I have read Kensuke’s Kingdom about ten times now, but I still can’t get enough of it. My favourite characters are Michael, Kensuke and Stella Artois.
I give Kensuke’s Kingdom five stars.
Another thing I like about Kensuke’s Kingdom is that it is written so vivdly and I would like to congratulate Michael Morpurgo for that.
This book is so full of mystery.
I wish there was another book leading on from this one where Kensuke comes along with Michael to finish their trip around the world.

I thought this story was unusual but interesting. I like the way the story is set out. Part of the story is in the form of a ship’s log and Michael, the boy in the book, tells his own story. My favourite character is his dog, Stella, because she protects Michael like a guard dog. I would recommend this book to children aged 10 to 12.

We thought the book was very interesting and wonderful. The book allowed our imagination to run wild as we were imaging the events that were happening whilst we were reading this book. We found that the characters were genuine and congenial as they showed us how youngsters should respect elders. We would recommend this book to all children over 10.

We’re reading this book in our class at school, and we’re up to the part where Michael finds a bowl of water and fruit. So far it’s extremely addictive! I sometimes drift away from my teacher’s voice and read by myself. Furthermore the dramatic, amazing illustration attracts the reader significantly, especially me!
I love your books Michael, and I hope to see more books in the future!

Kensuke’s Kingdom Book Review.
Personally ourselves we thought that Kensuke’s Kingdom was an adventurous book on the other hand it was emotional as it went on saying that Kensuke thought that he was abandoned and had no one to go to. We also thought that you were quite cleaver as you made Kensuke have 2 sides to him, our favourite character is Dad as he is very humorous because he calls Michael “Monkey face” also he was the one that bought the Peggy Sue and expected everyone to go along with it and live in it. After all we would defiantly recommend this book to anyone who likes cliff-hanger books and gibbons.
We would give this book…

I enjoyed this book because it seems like it could actually happen. It also makes me want to go and see if it actually exists because it seems so real. My favourite part of the book is when Michael, the boy who has been ship wrecked, and Kensuke, the owner of the island Michael and his dog washed up on, went fishing because it tells you about Kensuke’s history and it answered so many of my questions about Kensuke. If I had to make any improvements to the book, I’d make the ending a little bit longer. I found this book good and my overall rating of the book would be (including pictures)...
3/5!
I’d recommend this book to people over the age of 8.
I love my mammy says:
This book is spectacular. I thought Michael would never get home!!!
I love all the detail through out the book is so amazing. The ideas about travelling the world and different objects lead up into one story.
AMAZING!!!!!
nicky+jade says:
I think that Kensuke’s Kingdom is a good book because it has lots of detail in it of Michael and of Kensuke and of the island. I liked it when it described Kensuke and it told you one of his interests which is painting with octopus ink! I thought that was a weird thing to come up with but I think it was a good thing to come up with because it was unusual. I also liked it when it described Kensuke and it told you what he was like and that he was Japanese and it told you all about him and his life in Japan, which was really interesting. I liked the book and I also like Michael’s other books too, he really interests the reader.
